To be slim and trim is one of the major desires controlling our society. A flat stomach and sleek curves are at the top of many people’s list. Weight loss that happens naturally seems to be obsolete these days with our sedentary and largely inactive world. And no one wants to work for those slim, firm arms and legs anymore.
We live busy, fast and hectic lives. When it comes to losing weight we want it fast and we want it now. We want the changes right away and we do not want to have to work hard or put ourselves out to achieve them.
In the battle to lose excess body fat, just like on a real life battlefield the side that is the best prepared has the best information that gives them the most accurate and realistic picture is always the best poised to win. But our old ideas about the battle of fat loss have given us a false sense of security and we are living in an old illusion.
Losing fat weight is like bailing water out of a leaky boat and is a good way to begin, but the problem is if the boat is taking on water at a faster rate than we can bail it then a change in our plan of attack is needed along with a change in attitude as well.
Today we have so much against us with the fat loss battle; we are exposed to far more environment stresses than our bodies have ever had to deal with. Our bodies react by storing fat faster and more proficiently than in the past. They send our hormones that regulate our appetite control center ‘out of whack’ so we no longer really know if we are truly hungry or not so we just keep eating anyway.
The lack of physical activity in our lives makes losing weight almost impossible. This causes our metabolism to slow down and burn less fuel. Keeping on reducing food intake is not the solution. Speeding up the metabolism is the right thing to do and there is only one way to do this and that is to rebuild and re-tone the body’s muscular system.
Our muscles are where fuel (calories) are burnt for energy so there condition is critical if more fuel is to be burned round the clock. But toning muscles does take some ‘work’ and somehow we need to change our attitude about this. Our lives can be ‘easy’ and ‘comfortable’ and we never have to literally ‘move a muscle’ but at what cost?
Two thirds of us are overweight and one out of every two of us has one chronic ‘lifestyle disease’ and many have multiple conditions. These are often killer conditions like heart disease, cancer and diabetes along with dozens of others. Is it not better to be active and eat a healthy diet than to have one of these dreadful diseases that wreck our lives and cut them short?
We have allowed our bodies to become ultra efficient fat storing machines and it is not going to stop anytime soon. That is unless we individually take the required action and get started on a proper exercise program and ditch the processed foods. We each have to make that decision and we can make the change happen. Are you on board with this?
